A Hat for Rachel
This top-down hat starts with a little i-cord (or not, if you prefer), increasing into a swirly top and continuing for as long as you have yarn and time to knit. Our design was originally made to fit Rachel, a happy addition to our Yarniversity family, when she was one year old. We’ve added in a sizing chart so you can make your version to fit everyone in your family, from preemie babies to grown up adults.
Yarn: We’ve used many fingering weight yarns for this hat. Our favourite is Casbah by Hand Maiden (superwash merino wool, cashmere & nylon). A 100g/325m skein will make an adult hat; 40g/115m will make a toddler size hat.
Needles: 2.5mm double pointed needles as well as a 16" circular, or the size needed to get gauge.
Gauge: 36 stitches and 48 rows equal 10cm.
