Hacker activism and ethics? Robin hood hackers?

Considering the potential for hacker activism with our growing dependance on technology for daily life and indeed control of populations by companies, governments and agencies I wanted a fresh paper on the definition, examples and ethics of hacking for positive effect.

Also posing the question, would have Robin Hood approved of using technology for equality on financial and information sharing? Pressing a reset button every year for all people to have the same amount of money eliminating inequality?

In Internet activism, hacktivism or hactivism (a portmanteau of hack and activism) is the subversive use of computers and computer networks to promote a political agenda or a social change[1]. With roots in hacker culture and hacker ethics, its ends are often related to the free speech, human rights, or freedom of informationmovements.[2]

The term was coined in 1994 by a Cult of the Dead Cow (cDc) member known as "Omega" in an e-mail to the group.[3][4] Due to the variety of meanings of its root words, hacktivism is sometimes ambiguous and there exists significant disagreement over the kinds of activities and purposes it encompasses. Some definitions include acts of cyberterrorism while others simply reaffirm the use of technological hacking to effect social change
