This is a slam poetry style poem that motivates people to choose radical love for one another against the rules of an unloving society. The poem is spoken by a black female male artist who was inspired by Cortney Robinson, a man who has been on incarcerated since 2009 when he was 18 years old.
Part two of the poem explores her friends confession of not knowing, his comfortable complicity, the moment she shattered his worldview, his painful unlearning process, confronting his privilege, learning to see the system, and ultimately his commitment to teach others. The "each one teach one" philosophy runs through the entire piece, showing how one person's transformation creates a ripple effect.
