Stitch Meditation for Beginners

Learning Presence and Awareness One Simple Stitch at a Time

A Slow, Contemplative Practice with Thread

Stitch Meditation is a gentle, process-based practice inspired by the work of textile artist and educator Liz Kettle, using simple hand stitching as a form of mindful meditation.

Rather than focusing on technique or finished results, stitch meditation invites you to slow down, follow the rhythm of the needle and thread, and rest your attention in the present moment. Each stitch becomes an act of awareness—anchoring the body, calming the nervous system, and creating space for reflection.

There is no pattern to follow and no skill required. You may stitch lines, circles, symbols, or intuitive marks, allowing the movement of the hand to mirror the movement of breath and thought. The fabric becomes a quiet witness to time, intention, and inner experience.

Stitch Meditation is ideal for anyone seeking a tactile, grounding mindfulness practice—especially those who find still meditation challenging. It offers a way to meditate through making, one stitch at a time.

No sewing experience is necessary.

Just needle, thread, fabric—and permission to slow down.

Jes is a Certified Stitch Meditation Facilitator trained by Liz herself.
