30-Day Recklessly Alive Challenge
Five days following my suicide attempt in 2011, I started brainstorming ways to win my life back and break the cycle of addiction and misery and I hated myself. Instead of doing the hard things to change, I became best friends with Jose Cuervo and hid from the world beneath seventeen blankets.
Somewhere deep in my heart I knew to overcome my suicidal thoughts and self-loathing, I needed to do something daring and drastic. I needed to face life head-on and stop numbing the pain. I needed to stop making excuses and blaming the universe and finally start living my life to the fullest.
I had no idea what I was creating—it was just another crazy idea (which happens a lot in the world of Sam). What I didn’t learn until I launched my suicide prevention organization in May 2016 is the methods in this project are actually proven ways to help fight hopelessness and depression.
Quickly I’ve learned this project can be life-changing for anyone feeling stuck, bored or in need of a way to feel more ALIVE.
Some of the greatest weapons—seeking out new experiences, volunteering, practicing gratitude, making healthy choices, setting goals—are all ways to start changing your brain and infuse joy into your one precious life.
