Estudios milongueros (three milonga airs) / Regular tuning

(ENG) About this work

These three short pieces were composed to explore and develop different styles of milonga (a musical genre from Buenos Aires and Uruguay, related to early tango and folk music from the Pampas) on soprano or concert ukulele with traditional gcea tuning.

These compositions integrate the technical and harmonic resources of the milonga with campanella technique, which consists in playing melodies in alternating strings, maximizing the ukulele's resonance and taking full advantage of its peculiar reentrant tuning. Campanella shares some similaraties with traditional charango fingerpicking and it's very common amongst hawaiian ukulele players --it has been developed to the fullest by American ukulele virtuoso John King.
