The combination of vertical formations, oak groves and pine groves in the canals and cultivated fields in the surrounding plain means that the ornithologist can enjoy species of raptors and burrowing birds here, as well as Mediterranean species of brush and open spaces.

The mountainous massif of Montserrat literally, 'serrated mountain' is characterized by a steep relief, with many cliffs and walls.The unique silhouette of this complex rock formation, made of tooth-shaped swords, rises steeply and imposingly in the middle of a flat landscape. Although the culminating point has an altitude of 1,236 meters, the surrounding flatness makes the massif appear on the horizon as an impressive mountain of rocky spiers that retract and give play to the imagination. The ornithological interest lies in the combination of rupicolous species, some of which have a reduced distribution in Europe, and the presence of species of Mediterranean distribution in the forests and in the open areas of the cultivated fields. Thus, you can find such precious species as the crested eagle, the goshawk, the blue blackbird, the rock-pepper or the rock sparrow, very close to the black-headed woodpecker, the common woodpecker, the southern executioner and the capsigrany , or red partridges.
