There is no real handbook for parenting, and this book makes no claim to be one. Parenting is something you learn as you go. Some things we get right and other things not so much! These 40 Words of Wisdom are purely my thoughts on what I hold dear. They are my attempt to record what have been my guiding principles these past 26 years.
This book began as an email I sent my son on his birthday. I simply sent these principles as “words of wisdom for my 24 year old.” They had come to me spontaneously one day as I was wondering what I could give him for his birthday that was a little different. I sat at my computer, and these words poured from me. They came from my heart. They weren’t slaved over and over-thought.
I share my parenting manifesto, my principles if you like, the things I chose to consciously do differently. And here's the rule I believe applies universally...
Be a conscious parent.
Ask yourself, “What do I want to teach my children? Do I want to teach them to live from a place of fear or to live in love?” Sounds obvious really, doesn’t it? But if we are living from a place of fear, then we are unconsciously teaching our children that the world is a scary place. Let’s teach our children to live from a place of love….and that all begins with us.
