The First African American Poets: Selected Poems

This book is a collection of poems from six of the first published African-American poets: Lucy Terry Prince, Jupiter Hammon, Phillis Wheatley, George Moses Horton, James Monroe Whitfield and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Each section includes a short bio and selected poems. The poets are presented in chronological order to give the reader a look into the development of the African American poet over time.
