Why bother updating your personal information with the Credit Bureaus?
Removing old addresses and disputing incorrect information from your credit bureau files could boost your score.
By how much?
It VARIES depending on your credit history and information. The main reason to update/remove/dispute personal information is because it increases the chances of removing any negative items associated with these old addresses when you start the dispute process. When will you see an increase? It Varies- BE PATIENT. Credit repair is a Process
How can you update your personal information?
The most efficient way is to either go online or call each Credit Bureau. Some may even Fax a letter to get their personal information updated. The choice is yours. Be sure to update all personal information the SAME on each Credit Bureau and with the same format- for example, if you are updating your name to Jane C Doe, update it to Jane C Doe on each CB- don’t do Jane C Doe on one, Jane Doe on another and Doe, Jane C on the last. Keep it all the same. Some bureaus may require that you send proof of the changes you are making.
Wall Street Financial Solutions has a Personal Info Update Letter if you choose that route. The personal info update letter should contain the items that are reporting incorrectly, such as addresses, aliases, employers, phone numbers, maiden names, typographical errors, etc. and a simple statement asking them to please update with the correct information and to please send an updated report to the correct address. By the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, there should be no charges for the updated report.
