The trees that can be seen in the water in the lake in Barcelona's Ciutadella Park are swamp taxodium (Taxodium distichum), also known as swamp cypresses or bald cypresses. This species is native to the southeastern United States and is known for its ability to grow in flooded areas, with its roots submerged in water.

A characteristic feature of these trees is that they develop structures called pneumatophores, which are aerial roots that emerge from water or muddy soil to help the tree breathe in environments with little oxygen. Marsh taxodis are deciduous, so they lose their leaves in the fall, which makes for a very picturesque landscape when their leaves go through ocher and brown colors before falling.

In Ciutadella Park, these trees give the lake a very special touch, with their exotic appearance and visible roots.
