The Night Shift

Lukas Cronje doesn't talk much. Never has. He works three jobs, fixes boats, minds his business. In a town full of people with loud secrets, he's the one you don't notice. That's how he likes it.

But Lukas wasn't always from the coast. He came from somewhere inland—a workshop with a flickering fluorescent light, a drunk boss who used a tyre iron the way other men use words, and one night when instinct took over and everything changed. After that, there was only the road east, an old bakkie, and his father's spanner on the passenger seat.
