2019 Australian Comforts Fund WW1 & WW2 Fundraising Badges, Buttons & Pins

This illustrated Australian Badge Guide is unique and the original, ground breaking guide that has been documenting the history of Australia’s fundraising badges, buttons and pins since 2012. Australian Badge Guides is designed not only for “completists” – trying to get their hands on as many badges as they can – but also the person just interested in Australia’s war history, including the efforts to raise funds on the home front.  This 2019 edition is 124 pages in length and includes 353 badge images (including backs); known information about 16 badge makers and 434 references about the badges and the ACF.

The "ACF" or Australians Comfort Fund was originally formed on 24 August 1916 to raise money for comfort items to be sent to the Australian troops fighting for the British Empire in World War One. The ACF did astonishing work and was mainly organised and run by women on a voluntary-basis.

The ACF was formed from a number of Australian State-based patriotic organisations that had been individually formed at the beginning of the Great War. With the cessation of hostilities, the ACF officially ceased its fundraising operations on 16 April 1920, only to be reformed with the outbreak of the Second World War.

The layout of this Australian Badge Guide includes a full-colour image of each known badge, and relevant information for the collector with respect to technical details as well as known historical references to the particular badge and/or fundraising event.

The Australian Badge Guide has been written by a passionate badge collector with extensive military, literary and research experience who has also worked hard since 2012 in developing a badge collecting community on Facebook – this is because Australian Badge Guides is dedicated to honouring the wartime work of organisations such as the Australian Comforts Fund.

The Australian Badge Guide is an excellent reference on this topic and makes an ideal gift for any person with a keen interest in military and social history as well as the avid badge collector.
