"Robadas las potencias" – Mateo de Dallo y Lana (Duet for 2 Sopranos and Continuo)

Composer

Mateo de Dallo y Lana

Description

Explore a rare gem of New Spanish Baroque vocal music with this elegant duet, “Robadas las potencias”, composed by Mateo de Dallo y Lana, Maestro de Capilla of the Cathedral of Puebla in 18th-century New Spain (modern-day Mexico).

This short but expressive duet for two sopranos and basso continuo offers a unique glimpse into the refined sacred repertoire of the viceregal cathedrals. The continuo part, complete with figured bass, was written in 1740 by Juan de Quirós, then Maestro de Capilla of the Cathedral of Guatemala.

Perfect for chamber performances, liturgical reenactments, or academic study, this unpublished work showcases the vibrant transatlantic musical culture between Spain and the Americas.
