Course Description:
Lower Extremity Peripheral Vascular Disease (PAD) is a serious condition that affects millions of people worldwide. PAD is painful, debilitating, and has a huge impact on the patient’s quality of life.
There are so many risks associated with the procedures to do this. Opening the vasculature can be lengthy and fraught with complications using the old techniques to complete them. There has been so much research and the introduction of new technology into the dilemma.
The previous codes did not keep up with the new technology. To answer this, the AMA deleted all previous codes for Endovascular Revascularization, and we have a whole new section with all new codes.
Understanding the need for the new codes allows the coder to reason through their surgery reports. For example, the old code set was based on territory. The new set allows for this and adds access, imaging, and additional services that may be required and if these are bundled or billed separately.
This presentation will break these things down along with the new codes. Keeping in mind, there i9s no crossover, they are new codes and must be treated as new information.
Learning Objectives:
- What is Endovascular Revascularization?
- Why is this considered a separate section?
- What is bundled?
- Are there modifiers if services are not bundled?
- The hierarchy of the codes and their selection is explained
- What are bypass grafts?
- The major changes are across Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology, and Vascular Surgery
- There are 46 brand new codes introduced for Endovascular Revascularization
Areas Covered in the Session:
- An overview of why Endovascular Revascularization is now recognized as a separate CPT section
- A clear discussion of bundled services within the new code structure
- Guidance on identifying situations where services may not be bundled and whether modifiers apply
- A step by step review of code hierarchy and proper code selection
- An explanation of bypass grafts and how they are addressed in the new coding framework
- A review of the major coding changes affecting Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology, and Vascular Surgery
- An introduction to the 46 newly established Endovascular Revascularization codes and how they are applied
