♫ The Music: ♫
Sweet Carlough Bay is a traditional Irish tune which, as so many, tells a story:

“Winter was brawling, o’er high hills and mountains
And dark were the clouds o’er the deep rolling sea,
I met a wee lass as the daylight was dawning
She was asking the road to sweet Carnlough Bay.”

What better way to keep those toes and ankles warm during blustery weather -- be it Spring, Winter or Fall -- than with these simple yet interesting cable socks. A great pattern for beginning cable knitters.

These socks feature:

toe-up construction
short-row toe that begins with a provisional cast on
cable pattern is worked on the instep
sole is worked in Stockinette
a small cable motif is incorporated into the gusset
short-row heel cap leads into a slipped stitch heel flap (no need to pick up stitches)
cable pattern is worked on both the front and back leg
complimentary cable is worked into the ribbing
ribbing flows from cable stitches in leg.
The bind off requires the knitter to be able to identify knit and purl stitches.

Both charts and written directions for charts are provided. Charts are contained in the main pattern document; the written directions for charts are included as a separate PDF.
