This tall man emerges from the elevator on crutches and heads toward the reception desk.

His very white foot stands out vividly, thanks to the contrast with his purple sweatpants. We notice that his toes—as well as the visible portion of the cast—are covered by a fabric sleeve. However, it is not a sock. Upon closer inspection, one can discern a piece of tubular bandage that he has pulled over his cast to serve as a substitute for a sock.

He is called in for his MRI scan. During this examination, his split cast is removed from his foot. For a brief period, we are able to see his bare foot. Shortly thereafter, the split cast is reapplied and wrapped with a bandage. Now, he is no longer wearing the sock substitute over his foot, and we can clearly see his toes resting on the cast's toe plate.

While he sits in the waiting room, we are seated diagonally across from him; this vantage point allows us to admire—and enjoy the view of—the underside of his cast and its beautifully molded toe plate, right up until the moment he leaves the hospital once again on his crutches.
