In this short story poor Emily is crutching with a special shoe on her right foot after she sprained it. She goes back to the doctor to get her foot checked and partially takes the ortho-wedge shoe off and crutches with the bare/bandaged foot in the air. She also hops a bit with the ortho-wedge shoe on.
