Gilded Tears
After some time away from sharing my own paintings, I wanted to return with something deeply personal.
Gilded Tears is an intimate self-portrait about the contrast between what shines on the outside and what quietly breaks underneath. I used warm golds and deep shadows to create a sense of beauty and richness, but the tears are there to disturb that perfection. They are the part that cannot be polished away.
For me, this painting is about vulnerability without surrender. About allowing sadness, memory and emotion to exist beside confidence and beauty rather than hiding them. Gold is often associated with value, luxury and strength — but here I wanted it to feel almost fragile, as though even something precious can crack.
This is not Samantha posing for the world. It is Samantha in one of those rare moments when the mask slips, the noise disappears, and emotion is simply allowed to be seen.
After a long pause, it feels right that this is the painting with which I return.
