Woohlpooer

Woohlpooer is a deceptively simple beanie with a lot of wow factor. This cosy beanie creates an illusion of complicated colourwork; the truth is that only one colour is used in each round, and the deception is created using slipped stitches.

Much like its namesake bush location in Victoria, Australia, Woohlpooer (pronounced “wool-poor”) is full of quiet charm hiding in plain sight. Don’t let the name fool you though; your wool basket will be anything but poor after knitting this beauty.

Construction:

Woohlpooer is worked seamlessly in the round from the brim upwards from a twisted ribbed brim. The body of the beanie is worked in two colours, with one colour worked at a time and slipped stitches being used to form the unique stitch pattern.. The crown shaping continues the pattern placement which concludes with a circular crown.

Pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

Sizing:

To fit head size: 

14”/35.5cm - Newborn (16”/40.5cm - Baby, 18”/45.5cm - Toddler, 20”/51cm - Child) [22”/56cm - Adult, 24”/61cm - Large Adult]

Crown Length: 6”/15cm (6”/15cm, 7”/17.5cm, 8”/20.5cm) [9”/23cm, 10”/25.5cm]

The crown shaping will measure approximately 3”/7.5cm when knit to the correct row tension.

Yarn Requirements:

* WOOLganic Organic Merino 8ply/DK (100% organic merino; 113yd 103m/50g) — Main Colour: 1 ball, Contrast Colour: 1 ball.

* OR 8ply/DK weight yarn of approximately: 

Main Colour: 50/45 (60/55, 70/65, 80/75) [90/85, 100/95]

Contrast Colour: 50/45 (60/55, 70/65, 80/75) [90/85, 100/95] yards/metres.

Tension:

22 stitches and 30 rounds = 4 inches in stocking stitch.

It is advisable to swatch in the round and adjust your needles accordingly to ensure you maintain a consistent tension throughout this project.

Needles and Notions:

* US6/4mm: 16”/40cm circular and double pointed needles (dpns) (or size required for tension) 

* US4/3.5mm: 16”/40cm circular (or two needle size smaller than size required for tension)
