Gerald's Journey

GERALD'S JOURNEY by Bakang Batlang Selogelo is a dramatic and emotional story about a young boy named Gerald, whose life takes a series of unexpected turns. Born and raised in a rural African village, Gerald starts off as an innocent child with dreams, but as he grows, he faces hardships that push him toward a troubled path.

Leaving home for the city in search of a better life, Gerald is exposed to new challenges, friendships, and temptations. He struggles with poverty, bad decisions, and crime, including stealing from his own family. Despite multiple chances to change, including witnessing the success of his cousin Kelvin, Gerald continues down a dark road, eventually getting caught and punished by the village chief. His behavior leads to his final downfall—banished by his own relatives, he reaches a breaking point and attempts to take his own life. In the end, he loses his mind and is admitted to a hospital, where his journey tragically ends.

The novel explores themes of family, choices, consequences, and lost potential, painting a powerful and heartbreaking picture of a young man who strayed too far.
