The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has issued a draft notification proposing the Inland Vessels (Manning) Rules, 2025, under powers conferred by various provisions of the Inland Vessels Act, 2021 (24 of 2021).
These draft rules are intended to supersede the existing Inland Vessels (Manning) Rules, 2022—except for actions already taken or omitted under the earlier rules. The move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize the regulatory framework governing the manning, certification, and operation of inland vessels across the country.
