La Toya “Lady Rose” Hampton is a poet and spoken word artist. An educator and mentor to youth,
she has conducted classes and presentations for elementary, middle and high school students, helping them to explore poetry and use writing as a form of expression and self-care, as well as a tool to uncover and share in common interests and struggle.
Interweaving imagery of mirrors, Christianity and sensuality into her writing that is both effortless and thought-provoking, Lady Rose allows her audience to share in her struggle of what it means to be a woman, Black and Christian in the 21st century.
Lady Rose, whose work has been compared to that of Maya Angelou, has made numerous appearances at open mics and events as a featured artist in Portland and Los Angeles. Lady Rose completed her first one-woman show in July 2013.
