Pinterest wants only fresh pins. That means, you need up to 15-20 fresh pins per day (if you want to scale your account).
Looping through Tailwind, for example, when you create one pin and schedule it with a certain interval to different boards, is not an option, because those pins will not be considered "fresh".
Fresh pins on Pinterest refer to newly created or uploaded pins that have not been seen before on the platform.
What is a "Fresh Pin" - the definition
Pinterest defines fresh pins as "images or videos that they haven’t seen before." This means that any new visual content counts as fresh, even if it is linked to an old blog post or product.
A fresh pin can be either:
- A new image paired with a new URL (such as a blog post or product page).
- A new image paired with an existing URL (such as an old blog post or product page).
What is NOT a "Fresh Pin"
I have conducted an experiment on one of my blogs to find out, how small of modification to an existing pin shoud be for Pinterest to consider it as "fresh". Lets go step by step.
Same pin image + Same Title + Same Description + Different board
Immediately after posting second pin I noticed, that it had inherited the stats of the first pin (Exact number of Impressions and Pin clicks). this is a clear sign that this pin is not a fresh one, but rather a duplicated pin).
Same pin image + Different Title + Same Description + Different board
The stats is inherited, therefore Pinterest sees these pins as one entity, despite different titles.
What modifications lead to any pin appear as "fresh"?
Same pin image but different background color + Same Title + Same Description + Same board
Here the stats is not inherited and starts fresh, from 0. Although the only thing that was changed is the background color, it seems like it is enough to count new pin as "fresh"
Same pin with different image in the top righ corner + Same Title + Same Description + Same board
Again, the stats is not inherited and starts fresh, from 0. Although the only thing that chainged is an image that takes no more than 15% of the whole image.
Pinterest Fresh Pins - Summary
- Stop Repinning: Shift your focus away from repinning other people's pins. Don´t repin your old pins either. Concentrate on creating your own pin images.
- Create Multiple Versions: Design multiple pin versions for each blog post.
- Minimal Changes for Fresh Pins: Contrary to what you might think, minimal changes are enough for a pin to be considered fresh. Simply changing the background color can make a pin fresh.
- Multiple Pins for New and Old Posts: Develop multiple Pins (images) for new blog posts, for example, 5-10 individual Pins per post. Apply the same approach to old blog posts.
- Pinning Strategy: If you are making only minimal changes to your pins, it might be considered ok for the algorithm, but not to the human´s eye. Don´t pin similarily looking pins one after another. Keep them at least 7 days apart.
- Scheduling: Remember, Tailwind is great for scheduling but not for repinning. You can also schedule pins directly on Pinterest.
- PintoPins Service: If you're exhausted from creating, modifying, and scheduling 15-20 pins daily, try PintoPins. This service automatically creates and posts pins for you in batches, so you don't need to touch your Pinterest account or Canva.
