Santina Amato

Santina Amato holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, Australia and works in Melbourne, Australia and New York, USA. Her practice combines performance, video, sculpture, phototgraphy and site-specific contexts to explore the sensorial experience of femininity and the female identity within a surrealistic framework. Her work has been exhibited at the Governors Island Art Fair in New York, Detroit International Videonale at Kuntshalle Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit, Currents 2012, International New Media Arts Festival in Santa Fe, The Substation Centre for Art & Culture and the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne, Australia. In 2014, she fulfilled the position of Fellow at BRIC Media Arts House, Brooklyn, NY, partially supported by the American Australian Society’s Dame Joan Sutherland Fund. Amato has won many awards including NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) Mentoring Program for Immigrant Artists, Australia Council for the Arts, ArtStart Initiative and Australia Council for the Arts, New Work Early Career Grant. She has participated in Artist-in- Residence programs by Artspace Visual Arts Centre, Sydney, Australia, Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia and New York Art Residency and Studios Foundation, New York, U.S.A amongst many others.
