Why Spiritual Immaturity Keeps Us Stuck & How Obedience Sets Us Free

Hiding From Reality: Why Spiritual Immaturity Keeps Us Stuck & How Obedience Sets Us Free

How 2 Timothy 3:7 reveals the danger of “always learning but never transforming.

By: She's Iconic & Rich

The Silent Crisis of Spiritual Avoidance

In today’s world, many believers are consuming more sermons, devotionals, podcasts, and “spiritual content” than ever before — yet still living in cycles of confusion, frustration, and emotional instability.

This isn’t a lack of information.

This is a lack of obedience.

This is exactly what 2 Timothy 3:7 warns us about:

“Always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Many Christians are not lacking knowledge — they’re lacking surrender.

They are hiding from reality and calling it discernment.

They are running from obedience and calling it “waiting on God.”

They are avoiding responsibility and calling it “spiritual boundaries.”

But God’s Word is clear:

We are not called to remain spiritual infants.

We are called to grow, mature, and obey.

The Danger of “Always Learning, Never Obeying”

We live in a generation that loves knowledge but hates submission.

People will binge-watch sermons but won’t forgive their sister.

They will highlight every verse but refuse to humble themselves.

They will pray for clarity while ignoring the last instruction God already gave.

Learning is easy.

Obeying is costly.

And spiritual immaturity thrives in the space between the two.

When Paul wrote “always learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth”, he was describing people who:

  • love inspiration but avoid transformation
  • love revelation but resist correction
  • love spiritual talk but avoid spiritual discipline

This is the heart of hiding from reality. It’s living in denial of the areas God is trying to grow.

Why We Hide From Reality

People don’t hide because they are weak.

They hide because they are afraid.

And fear has many disguises:

1. Fear of Consequences

Obedience sometimes requires admitting we were wrong, repenting, or taking responsibility for our choices. Many would rather run from truth than face that reality.

2. Fear of Change

Transformation requires letting go of security blankets, comfort zones, and familiar dysfunctions.

3. Fear of Accountability

When we obey the Word, our life must reflect it. Accountability removes excuses.

4. Fear of God’s Will

Some fear that obedience will take them somewhere uncomfortable, unfamiliar, or costly.

So instead of obeying, they keep “learning.”

Learning becomes the delay mechanism.

Spiritual consumption becomes an escape.

And hiding becomes a lifestyle.

As Women, We Are Called to Obey — Not Avoid

This is not a message about legalism or perfection.

It is about biblical womanhoodspiritual maturity, and obedience that produces fruit.

Women are not called to be passive.

Women are not called to be fearful.

Women are not called to be spiritually immature.

We are called to:

  • submit our will to God
  • walk in truth
  • build our character
  • cultivate inner strength
  • stand firm in faith
  • let the Word shape our decisions

Obedience is a spiritual weapon.

Disobedience is a spiritual trap.

When a woman walks in obedience, her life becomes anchored.

When she avoids reality, her life becomes unstable.

When God Is Silent, He Is Speaking

One of the most misunderstood aspects of the spiritual walk is God’s silence.

Many believers panic when heaven feels quiet.

But silence is not punishment — it is direction.

If God is not telling you to move…

If God is not instructing you to leave…

If God is not shifting you into something new…

He is telling you to STAY.

Stay planted.

Stay obedient.

Stay submitted.

Stay faithful.

Stay where He put you.

God’s silence is His way of saying:

“Do not change the assignment. Stay where I placed you.”

Confusion comes when we try to move without His voice.

When God Tells You to Leave, You Will Go in Peace

God never guides through panic.

God never pushes through fear.

God never speaks through anxiety.

When it is God, you will feel:

  • peace
  • clarity
  • closure
  • spiritual alignment
  • internal confirmation
  • grace for the transition

If you feel chaos, fear, overthinking, or emotional turbulence…

it is NOT the voice of God.

Obedience brings peace.

Disobedience brings confusion.

God Never Intended for Us to Remain Spiritual Babies

Hebrews 5:12–14 tells us that many believers are still living on spiritual milk when they should be teaching others by now.

God doesn’t want spiritual infants.

He wants daughters with depth, discipline, and discernment.

Spiritual babies:

  • react emotionally
  • blame others
  • refuse correction
  • avoid commitment
  • change directions constantly
  • live by feelings instead of faith

Spiritually mature women:

  • obey the Word
  • endure hardship
  • submit their will
  • stay grounded
  • seek truth
  • grow through discomfort

Growth requires pressure.

Obedience requires sacrifice.

Transformation requires surrender.

Jesus Learned Obedience Through Suffering

This is one of the most profound truths in Scripture:

“Though He was a Son, He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” — Hebrews 5:8

Jesus — the perfect Son of God — learned obedience through suffering.

If the Son of God had to learn obedience through discomfort,

why do we believe our walk will be painless?

Suffering is not punishment.

Suffering is not abandonment.

Suffering is training.

It purifies motives.

It exposes disobedience.

It deepens trust.

It strengthens faith.

It matures the spirit.

Arm Yourself With the Same Mind

1 Peter 4:1 says:

“Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.”

This means spiritual maturity requires us to:

  • endure discomfort
  • resist temptation
  • choose truth over emotion
  • obey even when difficult

A woman who is spiritually armed is not easily shaken.

She doesn’t run from truth.

She faces it boldly.

The True Reason People Hide From Reality

Hiding from reality is not a personality quirk.

It is a spiritual warning sign.

It reveals:

  • spiritual immaturity
  • fear of obedience
  • resistance to correction
  • emotional avoidance
  • lack of trust in God
  • unwillingness to surrender

But the good news is this:

God exposes what we hide so He can heal what we fear.

Obedience Brings Alignment, Stability, and Peace

When we stop hiding and start obeying:

  • confusion lifts
  • peace returns
  • direction becomes clear
  • relationships heal
  • faith deepens
  • spiritual fruit appears

Obedience always leads to internal order.

Disobedience always creates internal chaos.

How to Stop Hiding From Reality & Start Walking in Obedience

1. Stop running from the areas God wants to transform

If something keeps coming up in your life, God is trying to grow you there.

2. Let go of emotional excuses

Obedience is not based on how we feel — it’s based on what God said.

3. Submit your will daily

Real obedience begins when you stop negotiating with God.

4. Stay where God placed you unless He clearly moves you

If God is silent, remain planted.

5. Accept discomfort as part of spiritual growth

Transformation is supposed to stretch you.

6. Let the Word correct you

Correction is proof of sonship — and daughterhood.

7. Surround yourself with mature believers

Isolation keeps you immature; community keeps you accountable

Obedience Is the Doorway to Spiritual Maturity

Hiding from reality may feel safe, but it stunts your growth.

Avoiding truth may feel protective, but it keeps you spiritually stuck.

Running from obedience may feel easier, but it steals your peace.

God is calling you higher.

He is calling you deeper.

He is calling you to maturity.

Not perfection — obedience.

If you stop hiding

and start surrendering,

your life will bear fruit that reflects the power, purity, and presence of God
