Composer Tom Lawrie trained under the tutelage of choral composer Richard Allain at Mill Hill School, Dr Mark Bellis at Colchester Institute - where he won the Roy Teed Composers Cup - and Dr Eric Egan at Durham University, thanks to a scholarship. His work adheres loosely to tonality, emerging from a broad range of influences - from Perotin to Radiohead, for example. Two organ works of his were performed in Colchester New Music events by Tom Bell and by James Bowstead. More recently his chamber and piano music has been performed in workshops in Durham by the Ives Ensemble and by Pianist Mark Knoop. “His aural imagination is magnificent and sweeping.” Composer, Julia Usher.
