Lately I’ve been trying something really simple that’s made a big difference to my days.
I’ve started noticing glimmers.
I reintroduced daily walking again recently to help with my mental health, and while I was out walking I decided I’d try to notice just one thing each day that brought me joy, peace, or made me stop and appreciate the moment.
It might have been a beautiful sunrise, sunshine on my face, a bird, or the sound of the waves.
Before long, I realised there wasn’t just one glimmer each day.
There were lots.

Now, each evening, I write them down in a diary. I’m hoping that one day I’ll have pages and pages full of little reminders that even in busy or hard seasons, there was still beauty to be found.
Some of my favourite glimmers lately have been walking into the lounge one morning and seeing the winter sunshine streaming through the kitchen window after days of rain. The kitchen was tidy, the trees outside were casting shadows on the wall, and I remember thinking, “Yay, it’s going to be a beautiful day.” It’s funny how something so simple can change your whole outlook.

Another glimmer was getting up before everyone else to make sourdough bagels. I love the whole process. Rolling out the dough, shaping each bagel, watching them pop up to the surface as they boil, and then opening the oven to see them all golden and sprinkled with sesame seeds. There’s something so satisfying about making food from scratch, especially when they’re devoured within minutes by the family! Saturday lunch was bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers… so good.

One of the biggest glimmers for me this month has been finding my creativity again.

I started making a patchwork quilt using fabrics left over from when I used to make children’s clothes years ago. Instead of letting those fabrics sit in a cupboard, they’ve becoming something beautiful. The quilt has even inspired me to slowly give our bedroom a bit of a cottage farmhouse feel. I’ve been collecting little treasures from op shops and creating a room that feels peaceful and cosy.
That creative spark also inspired me to start making a patchwork children’s dress. I haven’t felt that excited to create something from start to finish for such a long time, and I’d forgotten how good that feeling is.
Another glimmer this month has been seeing our Philippines plans finally start to come together. We’ve been working towards this goal for a long time, making plans, saving, and taking one step at a time. Later this year we’ll be travelling to the Philippines for an international convention, and afterwards we’ll be exploring a few different places as we consider what life might look like if we lived there in the future. We don’t know exactly where this journey will lead us, but it’s exciting to see something we’ve worked so hard towards starting to become a reality. For now, we’re simply grateful for the opportunity to explore, learn, and enjoy the adventure together as a family.
Alongside all of that, I’ve also been reaching for a few favourite essential oils every day.
Peppermint has become part of my morning walk routine. I love putting it on before I head out—it just feels fresh and helps me wake up for the day.
I’ve also been loving KidPower lately, and one of my own blends, Inner Calm. It’s a blend I put together when I want to slow down and feel calmer. It’s amazing how simple little habits can really help in the middle of a busy life.
I don’t really have a big lesson to finish with, except maybe this…
Life hasn’t suddenly become perfect.
I’m just learning to notice it a little more.
And I’ve discovered that when I look for glimmers, I usually find them.
Maybe today you’ll notice one too.
I’d love to know… what’s been one of your glimmers lately? Leave a comment below or come and say hello on Instagram
