Great prologue again! The one in the first book was about grief, the second is about perseverance.
I gotta imagine Bree having to share a head with dozens of people has to be exhausting & traumatizing—fragmentation of the self, not feeling like your own person because a few can control your body & what you perceive on a day to day basis... I really hope that doesn't detrimentally affect Bree,, that's too much for a kid to handle constantly..
The angst/tension is HEAVY at this moment in time, oH gOd👀
Damn, Sel is being read to filth by these high ranked Merlin's😭 Stop, he's just doing his best. (he does need to get stronger)
The amount of angst that has happened in the first 10% of this book is outrageous to me— I just started, & this is how you greet me?!
You know what this arc reminds me of?.. Season 3 of tvd, where Stefan goes off with Klaus, and Elena & Damon are trying to find him, and during that time Stefans gone, Elena & Damon get closer. Is that what we're going with here?👀
"Perhaps smooth things down with a cleaner look"... It's Bree's hair, she can wear it however the fuck she wishes, Teressa. Seeing a black person with cornrows won't kill you.🙄😤
"eyes closed. eyes open. now I'm myself again" These switches & blending between identities (Bree & Arthur) is very DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) which I find fascinating!! Please keep exploring this!
I find it odd that Lark is awed/confused by Bree speaking old Welsh, when Arthur is 'possessing' her body... Is that not normal for a vessel of Arthur to do?.. maybe it's Arthur speaking in Bree's voice thats the unusual part—since Bree is a medium that's likely why there's way more mind/personality blending, & body sharing going on than it would a non medium as a Arthur vessel... I wasn't expecting the story to go this route so much, I'm pleasantly surprised.
FUCK ALL THE WAY OFF!! They're blaming Selwyn for the deaths?! Is that why Sel didnt show up, he knew this would happen?— Can this kid ever catch a fucking break?!!😤
If the regents have no haters, then I am dead!
I love how loyal our legendborn are to Selwyn,, THE WHOLE CHAPTER IS MAD! Regents basically just declared war.

"Grief is not a competition." Bree is far more mature & wise than a lot of people irl—A harsh reality, trauma, & overwhelming responsibilites will do that to a kid..
Possessing the bodies of the knights + Arthur at the table "in your head" like a telepathic connection through space, is such an entertaining concept! Lord of mysteries, & The Hades 2 game does a similar thing too!
Nick & Sel both not wanting Bree to save them gives me a damn headache. She's gonna do it anyways.
"Half a heart is not enough to live a full life, is it?" WHAT A LINE!🔥
I must be out of the loop—what is happening?!.. why?? This is the most confused I've been so far.. what is going on??💀
SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ONNN??!! I'm missing a massive puzzle piece and it's frustrating me BAD😭
They've suppressed Bree's inheritances??! why? was it becoming self destructive?.. still an experimental dosage? So they've known what's up and planning shit? I. AM. BEYOND. CURIOUS. for a full explanation.
Bree's something new? safety for herself and them? Sure.. they're just protecting their asses, right?
I asked this last book too, is Bree also part demon or something else as well?!
Erebus is growing on me atm.. that's strange.
The regents went above and beyond to condemn & hide Bree from becoming king because "her powers are dangerous" when in reality, they just can't stand the idea of a black girl as their king,, along with the fact Bree is the result of rape during slavery—The regents don't want THEIR order reputation tarnished.... not shocked or surprised at all.
Accusation without proof?!..... BREE IS LITERALLY THE PROOF STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU!! 'Racism' and 'brainless' really do go hand in hand.
"You don't believe history is true. You won't even admit it's possible. That I am Arthur's heir not by choice or honor, but by violence!"
"Since when has a man's title prevented his brutality instead of emboldening it?"
FACTS! FACTS!! FACTS!
Bree's in a prison. Selwyn's in a prison. Nick's in a prison. William's in a prison. Who else??😓
If this mystery savior is setting Bree up, I will be furious!
GILLIAN AND ALICE TO THE RESCUE?! HELL YES!!😭 im crying happy tears

Samira you are the MVP! I love her! Keep this woman safe at all costs!
This means "civil war" is on the horizon, for sure.
Lark is a real one!
Sel and his self loathing/guilt is pissing me off. Do you know how much everyone else fucks up? They're not off trying to get themselves killed. UGHH THIS FKN GUY NEEDS SELF ESTEEM AND THERAPY!!
Purposefully running into getting stabbed for Bree.. Sel loves you, that's not duty. You can't fool me.
Hey so crazy question.. when will Bree be able to fight for herself?! It feels like she needs to be saved all the time, & I'm getting tired of it.
I am sooo paranoid with the "unconsious" demon next to them. Heal Bree inside or something!! Please! What if it pops back up and attacks?!
"That's why you cant understand, it was my fault! I could have saved her. should have. Instead I watched her die."...I know a certain someone; Selwyn—who's worst fear, & state of mind is precisely that... Jonas & Sel parallels?
Who's the "Great Devourer"? New villain? Some Shadowborn God?
"Call her Alice." later "I agree with Alice." Bree is walking Sel like a dog!😁
Bree and Sel in the bathroom moment.. "Briana Irene forever leaping before she looks. Then she gets stuck and doesn't know what to do." The concept of going back to Nick after this— unfathomable.
All those times Bree felt something with Sel. He heard that. He's known.. This dialogue he's saying— These two's chemistry is a fire hazard.
Bree, you logically can't train, fight off demon attacks, a potential new villain, AND find Nick all at the same time... Sel's blow up was lowkey valid.
This post has mostly been me talking about Bree & Sel, but I mean Jesus christ. With angst & chemistry like that I gotta point it out. The author wrote their flirting with electricity!
"These are the people who the legendborn are supposed to save from demons? The humans you're sacrificing yourselves for?" Alice is asking the real questions.
This "fieldtrip" is stressing me out!! I feel like everything's going to go wrong at any second!
Alice knows what she's doing. Asking Sel how he thinks Bree looks?— 👀👀😂 she's encouraging these two.. I'm lowkey shocked, Alice has been team Nick for a long time.
yeah I had a bad feeling—They walked into the fuckn lions den!!😨

Sel has been mesmering Bree? —I doubt this means their feelings aren't real. Is this going to be like the tvd Delena 'sire bond' complexity all over again?.. UUGHH that's a bit frustrating ngl. Interesting. But frustrating.
Ik demons can affect someones desire but would that remain long term? That wouldn't bring feelings of genuine care or growing romantic feelings would it?
Bree is able to break mesmers if she's aware of them + pain... there's something to this... she allowed herself to feel what she felt..
A Similar Side Tangent.. Nick & Bree's 'attraction' to eachother is based on external predetermined factors outside their control. There's a lack of free will in terms of how/why they remain drawn to eachother. But their intimate, personal & romantic emotions are all their own. My thought process right now—Sel's mesmer & that predetermined magnetism are similar, just one was done personally & the other is completely out of their control because of their bloodlines. The books so far haven't really dived deep into the complexity or invasiveness yet of either,, but most likely soon when Sel is able to explain himself properly.
Typically If Sel thinks he's done something "irredeemable" he REFUSES to defend himself—BUT while all this is going down, he DID so, and constantly... so unless his personality is changing due to desperation to keep feeding on Bree,, there MUST be more to this.
Did Sel feed on Bree's misery since the second they met? Idk.. plus they've had genuine moments together, if that was mesmer too then ???.. I also thought mesmer isn't about making people 'feel' something new, it's just memories & actions they manipulate that indirectly can affect emotions,, otherwise the Regents & chapters would have well past tried to make Bree, & other pages FEEL differently..

"Seeing" Sel behind bars calling out to Bree—my. heart. is. shattered! We ARE NOT going to leave him here, right??!
Making a deal with the devil and not being SUPER specific is CRAZY! That's how it ends up being a detrimental curse instead of reaping benefits.
Sel broke Bree's trust. His mesmers were only ever visual. He explained himself, & they both acknowledged their feelings... Hey! A win is a Win! They'll repair their bond, & trust eachother again. it'll be fine. Although Nick already knows Selwyn's feelings, Bree should be honest with Nick at some point and tell him about her own for Sel.
Lord Davis is dead, I can celebrate!! I understand his death pushed Nick over the edge & he was still his father at the end of the day, but hey, I hated that mf.
Erebus chasing Sel & Bree is TERRIFYING🤯 His character is cool, can't deny that, but I'm annoyed with myself I genuinely thought he'd switch sides🙄
BREE AND SEL FIGHT EREBUS TOGETHER?? !!! THE FLAMES !! AHHH!!🙌
For once Bree, dont hesitate to run! I wish you'd join a fight too, but not now please.
She's gonna live obviously, but OMG Sel's reaction😭
Valec, the MVP!
"He almost died to keep you alive" SELWYN FUCKING KANE!! THEE MVP! I fucking adore this kid so much!!😭
OKAY. If yall dont fucking get it over with and kiss! I'm about to cuss both of you out!😂
This moment just unlocked a core memory! Helping snap/prepare green beans & pea pods from the garden as a kid.
Bree finally getting to speak to her mom💕
Sel's mother has to show up to sometime, right? next book maybe?
I gotta headcanon Selwyn as Damon Salvatores child, they're so much alike! Neither of them get remotely upset or jealous.
Bree bringing Sel with her to see Nick—now THAT is what I'm talking about! Trio!!
Bringing Bree to see lightning bugs for her birthday? Sel, you're romantic as hell.
These two keep dancing around it, JUST SAY IT ALREADY! OH MY GAWD😂
Confetti🎊. Singing Choir. 10x More Confetti!—THAT was... The Most Passionate Moment in the entire series!! (so far)
I'm– 😢 Can the shadowborn NOT make my bbys fear for their lives right after a really sweet moment Pleaseeee!

Erubus you piece of shit! Threatening Patricia?!!–
Well. I kinda, sorta got my Sel & Bree together kicking ass, fight. I'll count it.
ARTHUR, YOU DICK!! YOU LIED!! I should've known.
NO WAY ALICE IS DYING! WHAT KIND OF SHIT IS THIS?!!
Arthur can't use Bree's abilities, just his own? SERVES YOU RIGHT, CUNT! Maybe if you didn't suppress her in HER OWN BODY! UGHH!
Alice is okay! THANK GOD!
"wrong place at the wrong time" ???!!!! Vera was a SLAVE who was RAPED!!.... Wasn't it Cestra who literally defend Bree's point during their stupid trial about how men who have power, abuse it??!... Cestra you pick me, bitch! NOT a girls girl. Just racist and sexist. I shouldn't be shocked..
With how this is going, I'm expecting a bleak ending to book 2..
"I have seen these children through Briana's eyes, unlike you they're loyal to the mission." Im upset with Arthur but, Yeah you tell her!!
Did Cestra just use Gen Z lingo ironically?.. She's a vindictive, hateful bitch, and she's using our—
😂💢 (I hate her!)
Arthur realizing he fucked up, is satisfying to "see". He could've had an alliance with Bree that benefited them BOTH but in the end, but he chose to take advantage of her... The irony has layers..
Is reality & the dream world starting to blend? Lancelot & Merlin are telling Bree to stop... ???
Sel sacrificing more of his humanity to save Bree—I'm crying & heart broken again, yippee... If Sel dies or is lost permanently, I'm done. Genuinely.
Alice is in a coma, & Sel finally woke up but....—oh I feel nauseous.
The shadow king took the form of Erebus??! oH.. holy plot twist!
Bree made a deal with THE Devil to help Sel!!—My heart is being shredded, put back together, & stomped on!
The Erebus plot twist was more shocking than "Holy shit now it all makes sense now". That's the only strong critique I have atm. Erebus defending Bree a few times didn't really raise suspicion in me, I just thought he was only a complex character under a corrupt organization,, he needed more foreshadowing for sure. Otherwise this book was Amazing! Make me cry a ton, lol.
