This Poison Heart | Book 1

Thoughts from 9% - 20%

Penny dreadful mention!

"Have you ever tried not being weird around plants?" Bri, I'm not a fan of your friend so far..

While Bri and her moms are having financial trouble, Bri's birth mother's sister died so she's inheriting an estate?... Is this author writing convenience, or in world convenience?🤨 Its suspicious.

Annabelle doll mention!

40 acres of land, & a massive house!?! A perfect living space for Bri and her powers.

'GET OUT' MENTION!

'ADDAMS FAMILY' MENTION!!

Its getting very witchy. witch grass? wolfs bane?

Bri and her moms wore tank tops and shorts out in the country where theres poison ivy, nettles+ that can irritate the skin.. As someone who grew up on a farm practically in the woods, I winced. lol.

Letters labeled 1-3, like a scavenger hunt? a woman standing in the driveway watching Bri?.. This went from fun beyond the grave bonding with your niece, to I'm officially weirded out...

"Investigating weird people in the driveway will get your ass sliced up. You've seen 'Us', come on now." GOD I LOVE characters who've seen horror movies and aren't incompetent idiots! what a breath of fresh air!

"A small box labeled, magical uses." I was right! there's witchy things in this series!🥰

"At the top of the page was the name absyrtus heart." THEY SAID THE THING. Poison heart.

wait— goblins??!

nope no goblins, just Bri's mind playing games😪 I didnt picture this series to be fantasy, I was shocked for a sec.

"Rhinebeck is small." 100-700 people is a small town, Rhinebeck has thousandS of people😴😅

I have a ton of questions..

Why was the guy in the poison garden, and how does he know Bri's birth mother?

Why did Bri's aunt and birth mother have different opinions on Bri becoming in charge of the poison garden?

If the garden keeps the most poisonous plants in the world & would kill anyone who enters/touchs the plants, what's the purpose of keeping them?

Who would the apothecary sell to?

What did the social worker mean by colorful characters?

How did Bri's birth mother and aunt die?

Paul Rudd?! Mo thinks Ant man is the finest white man?!.. Let me introduce her to some actual fine specimens, cuz huhh?😅

Bri is so sweet & thoughtful,, and her moms are so accepting & protective of Bri— I love this family so much!😭😭

That girl showed back up? why? who isss sheee??

"She was the most striking person I'd ever seen." is Bri?🤨🏳️‍🌈 ??

I've known Marie for 0.2 seconds and I LOVE her ferociously. Nothing better happen to her!— side note I saw 'Marie' and immediately thought of and pictured Marie Moreau from 'gen v'😭💕

WHAT IS THIS TENSION MARIE AND BRI?? "sorry I lost my train of thought." "It happens." ..Girl! Their flirting has me. GAGGED. bye.

"Marie was up here a few days ago gushing about the beautiful girl at the apothecary."

Marie & Bri are a happy surprise for me— I ship them. I didn't know this book would have any romance subplot for the mc. I thought it'd be strictly a fantasy/mystery.

Lucille is a witch— she can 'read' people & their 'fortunes'. I'm in love with how witchy this series is,, it's right up my alley!

Lucille warned Bri to not stock/sell a certain poisonous plant. Mo's car tires got slashed while in town. Mrs. Redmond warned Bri to be careful of people's intentions. And a death was reported..... I'm getting nervous😧

Mo & Bri got me crying with their heart to heart moment in the car😭😭

"Secure the bag baby." implying that Bri marry Marie for her riches, I'm DEAD😂 I love Mom & Mo!

So Marie ages slowly? she's not actually 17? How old is she then?.. The ship is unlikely to happen,, ugh.

Wait. I thought Lucille told you to NOT stock or sell Oleander?...

4 men attacked Bri & Karter at the theater. "Get her"... They want that rare & dangerous 'poison heart' plant, right?

Marie knew her friend who was alive In the 1600s, so she's gotta be approx. 400 yrs. old... her eyes are fully black? and she showed up instantaneously & dissapeared twice now that we've "witnessed".. so what is she then? vampire? demon? ghoul? idk.

a cure for death? a plant that gives you Immortality?... yeahhh that'll entice the wrong kinds of people to get their hands on it. honestly I'm shocked Bri & the property hasnt been attacked/destoryed more often trying to look for it.

A family run funeral home preparing the dead, & the current member having the name 'Lucifer' is perfect. Perfect! Also Lucifer has beef with Marie—someone who became immortal to survive the black plague. It gives their beef additional narrative meaning I really enjoy!

The email about Greek mythology is fascinating🤩

"Guardian of the crossroads—In Greek mythology she's said to have aided Demeter in her search for Persephone." There was a picture of Bri (age 1) on the alter... Did Bri go missing, or maybe even taken, and Selene was doing rituals to try and find her? ..or maybe it's just a protection spell?

Mrs. Redmond I don't trust a word you say after Karter was just trying to push Bri and her moms to leave town... The property was fully paid off when they got here, but now all of a sudden there's back taxes & debt that needs to be paid???.. looking the way she does. AND ASKING FOR THE KEYS??!! SHE'S EVIL OR SOMETHING, GET OUT!

Was Karter told to become friends with Bri?.. WAS THAT WHY HE WAS SO FORWARD— OH!! That explains the coincidence of Bri gaining an inheritance at the perfect time! My paranoia & plot pattern recognition pays off reading mysteries cuz HELLO?! That timing was borderline supernatural?!?!

I audibly screamed. WHAT. THE. FUCK. DO. YOU. MEAN... THERE WAS NO WILL?!?!

That explains Mrs. Grants confusion when Bri told her Circe left a will before she went missing.. I feel INSANE—so Mrs. Redmond set EVERYTHING up!!

Twist after twist just keeps coming. Taylor, the woman that was reported dead on the news & Mrs. Redmond claimed was a friend, was the specialist that was in charge of the transfer & had possession of og paperwork for Bri's inheritance— i feel ill. How many people has Mrs. Redmond killed to get her way??

Mom is being held hostage!,, Here's a thought Bri, CALL MARIE!

Mrs. Redmond's actions all boiling down to a millennia long family feud based in misogyny?.. oh brother. Jason & his family lineage disgusts me deeply. Just a bunch of leeching losers.

Karter set up the attack at the theater? okay FUCK HIM.

"Get the Oleander." LUCILLE WARNED BRI NOT TO HAVE OLEANDER IN STOCK! WHY DOES NOBODY TAKE WITCHES WARNINGS SERIOUSLY?!?!

Mrs. Redmond shoved Oleander in mom's mouth... is it fake? Bri can't be stupid enough to not have listened to Lucille, a witch's 'advice', RIGHT??! Please be a twist & let me be right! (I was wrong. very wrong. she's dead.)

When Hecate said the six pieces of the heart have to reunited to save Bri's mom,,, does that imply they have to die?... Is Marie gonna die in the next book?!

I still think Circe is still missing, not dead.

Not even a page later, Circe has arrived out of the blue! I KNEW SHE WAS ALIVE!
