About Trade Stevens, M.S., SHRM-SCP, PHR
HR is not a benefits hub. Done right, it’s one of the biggest levers a business has.
Welcome! I’m Trade Stevens, a senior HR executive who helps entrepreneurs and businesses of any size hire, lead, and keep great people, on a fractional, consulting, or full-time basis.
Here’s what good HR does for a business:
- Hires and keeps the right people, so you spend less time and money replacing them
- Builds leaders and managers who can actually manage
- Keeps you compliant, so surprises stay small
- Sets fair pay and clear roles, so people know where they stand
- Solves people problems early, before they become expensive ones
- Learns your business, so the people strategy supports the business strategy
- Uses data and analytics to guide better decisions
- Moves your HR from reactive to strategic, so your team grows with your business
Here’s the thing about HR: when it’s done well, you barely notice it. When it’s missing, you notice everything: turnover, tension, compliance headaches, and the “how did this get so complicated?” feeling that eats up your week. That’s true whether you’re an entrepreneur making your first hire, a five-person startup, or an established organization with more than a thousand employees.
That’s where I come in. Whether it’s a fractional engagement, a consulting project, or a full-time leadership role, I step in as your HR leader. I can build your HR foundation from scratch, fix what isn’t working, support your managers, handle the tricky people situations, and keep you on the right side of the rules. Think of me as the HR leader your business needs, in whatever shape fits.
And if you’d rather roll up your sleeves and do it yourself, that’s what the books are for. Every ebook in this store comes from more than 18 years of real-world experience at the CHRO and Vice President level. I’ve led HR for workforces of over 1,000 employees, advised executive boards, and overseen operations, finance, and technology teams as well, so I look at HR the way a business owner does. You won’t find bloated corporate theory or dense legal jargon here. You’ll find plain-language frameworks, checklists, templates, and toolkits you can use this week, whether you’re a CEO, an entrepreneur, a first-time manager, or the one person in the building who got handed HR.
A little about me: I’m also a working singer-songwriter, and HR found me entirely by accident. I moved to New York at the age of 22 to pursue a career in music, and when the HR role at a growing organization of 100-plus employees opened up, I was asked to step in. I started as an HR department of one, so I know how lonely that seat can be. Music never stopped. HR simply became an addition, and I’ve been fortunate to find success in both, including a record deal and licensed songs.
When I’m not working on people strategy, you’ll usually find me writing and performing music or training in the martial arts.
