A GDD, or Game Design Document is something that we create to hold the game development process together. The document itself is split into several parts, which can be repetitive but more importantly helps keep all of your information for your game in one spot. In this document for Sanctuary Game Studios, I split it into different parts for various aspects of the game design and development life.

There is the:

* Game Overview, which is basically a pitch of the concept that is directed towards investors or backers.

* Gameplay and Mechanics section, where we would go into how the economy and achievement structure works, as well as explaining that the box in the bottom left corner of the screen turns blue when you touch it, not green.

* The Screen Flow, which shows the viewer, which could be the person working on the project with you, or a third party how each screen interacts with each other.

* A chapter on Interface and Scenes, which delves into the UI/UX of the game, and more description about the scenes and screens of the game. I for instance would link this to the asset appendix, for instance with Main Screen, view buttons in Appendix H.1 and Objects in Appendix A.

* A chapter on Characters, with examples present for your first few.

* Chapters for Interface, AI, Technical, Game Art, Management, and more.

Our GDD contains the different aspects involved in the Game Design Document, such as the Art Bible, Technical Bible, and Story Bible. Hopefully this would help improve your own workflow, where you can use it as an example and template with creating your own GDD for your games and company!

If you think that the GDD helped you out, please consider chipping in since it helps with putting up more tools online! Thanks in advance!
