Defying Genocide: The Story of a Gazan Doctor

Who am I?

I am Dr. Abdalqader A.K. Wishah, an emergency medicine physician working at the Al-Aqsa and Al-Awda hospitals, two of the largest hospitals in the Gaza Strip. I have been serving as a senior physician and the doctors’ supervisor in the emergency departments of both hospitals during the ongoing genocide.

What’s this booklet about?

In this booklet, I share some of my experiences during the war, along with many stories and firsthand testimonies from the heart of the catastrophe, directly from the emergency rooms.

Why isn’t this booklet free?

I will be honest: I work extremely long hours for a very modest wage. I have decided to sell this booklet for a symbolic price to help me support my family, and continue my journey under these harsh living conditions.

What’s the goal of this booklet?

Its goal is to convey a glimpse of the suffering endured by medical staff and the reality of hospitals under this brutal war and suffocating siege. I also want to show that medicine is a humanitarian profession, one not bound to financial reward, and filled with sacrifice.
