Badness: The Consequences of an Imbalanced Mind

An off-center mind easily leads to imbalance, which can manifest as badness and give rise to potentially disastrous consequences. A balanced and centered mind is key to maintaining well-being and avoiding harm. Neutralizing badness restores balance and ensures a harmonious state of being.

The Natural Law of Return

When you engage in negative thoughts or behave in an evil manner, misfortune and disaster will inevitably follow. Conversely, living a life that is centered and balanced leads to well-being. These outcomes are governed by the natural principle of Return, where every thought and deed comes back to its origin.

  • Deserved outcomes never go amiss. Retributions may occur immediately, later in life, or even in subsequent existences.
  • Your thoughts and deeds are like intangible arrows released from you, and their corresponding outcomes will always find their way back.
  • This return reflects the law of truth, from which no one—not even gods or devils—can escape.

The Nature of Badness

Badness induces impurities, which are intangible yet real, much like energy or particles. These impurities disrupt the balance of the mind and body, leading to further harm. The most common seeds of badness include:

  1. Evil Desires: Unchecked cravings that harm oneself and others.
  2. Hypocrisy: Deceptive behavior that masks true intent.
  3. Savageness: Cruel and reckless actions.

Additional seeds of badness arise from:

  • Jealousy, born from a comparing mind.
  • Disdain, stemming from conceited pride.
  • Mercenary attitudes, driven by unscrupulous ambition.

The worst causes of badness, however, are those with extensive and far-reaching consequences:

  1. The spread of bad education (mental corruption).
  2. The provision of harmful drugs (physical harm).

These factors degrade minds, harm bodies, and perpetuate suffering on a vast scale.

The Consequences of Immense Badness

The most severe outcomes of immense badness are infinite and numbing pain, inflicted upon oneself and others. This suffering extends into future lives, creating a cycle of negativity and despair.

However, situations may arise where outcomes seem inconsistent with actions:

  • When someone commits bad deeds yet experiences well-being, or
  • When someone performs good deeds but encounters disaster.

This apparent imbalance relates to merits and karma inherited from previous generations. The outcomes are influenced by the accumulated karma of the past, which continues to shape the present.

Responding to Adversity

If you are a good person but face disaster, it is crucial to:

  1. Accept the situation willingly, understanding that it is not a result of your current actions but a consequence of past karma.
  2. Respond with calmness and compassion, making an effort to perform good deeds as compensation.
  3. Avoid dwelling on negative emotions such as misery, bitterness, or helplessness, as these only attract more negative energy and perpetuate the cycle of negativity.

Instead, open your heart to the experience and approach it with a sense of inner strength and understanding.

Awakening After Badness

For those who commit bad deeds yet experience well-being:

  1. Awaken quickly and recognize the imbalance with humility.
  2. Feel sincere remorse and offer heartfelt apologies.
  3. Pray for a reduction in karma and cultivate awareness to prevent future wrongdoing.

Badness creates impurities, but these can be purified by Te, an intangible and powerful quality that cleanses the mind and restores balance.

The Path to Enlightenment

When you achieve enlightenment and embrace the truth:

  1. You will develop inner discipline, a natural inclination to abstain from evil deeds.
  2. This discipline will arise from the depths of your heart, guiding you toward a life of balance and goodness.

By aligning yourself with the truth and neutralizing badness, you will achieve a state of purity and harmony, free from the cycle of negativity.
