Nepterran

(Nep-ter-ran)

The Nepterran (Terribilis Regina) is a semi-aquatic, anamniotic, gill and lung bearing species with characteristics resembling lobe-finned fish. It is recognisable by it's lightly coloured ventral side (Underside) and complex, brightly coloured dorsal side (Topside). It is the largest member of it's family group and the only remaining member of it's genus, being found in almost every climate. The Nepterran is mostly found in tropical regions, venturing out into deeper waters through warm currents to forage, cases of cold climate adapted varieties have been noted.

Nepterran are hyper-carnivorous, opportunistically omnivorous, primarily feeding on larger species of fish, cetaceans (eg. Whales, Dolphins) and larger molluscs (eg. Colossal Squid). Modern day Nepterran have expanded their diet to include fruits and other processed foods. Their capacity for social behaviours is broad in range depending on variety and climate, with warmer climate adapted individuals building up communal areas and forming large groups, but colder climate adapted individuals being more solitary, even actively hostile towards each other, in some cases driving cannibalism.

Nepterran have been recorded long before many sapient species as having considerable amount of conflicts within themselves and towards other species, however diplomatic procedures have also been recorded. Throughout recent history the Nepterran have fallen into decline to the point of being considered a spectacle to see, even myth, however with the advancements of modern technologies, their existence and way of life is rapidly being unveiled.
