🌉 San Francisco: A Beautiful City That Punishes Poor Planning

“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” — Often attributed to Mark Twain

San Francisco is breathtaking.

It is also full of hills, microclimates, and neighbourhoods that look close — but are not walkable.

We learned that the hard way.

Why We Personally Tested Every Route

Before finalising our SF itinerary, we:

  • Walked from Fisherman’s Wharf toward North Beach (yes, including the incline)
  • Tested public transport timing vs Uber costs
  • Checked actual visibility conditions at Golden Gate viewpoints
  • Timed cable car queues at different hours
  • Evaluated whether certain scenic spots justified the detour

San Francisco requires strategic clustering.

Otherwise, you’ll spend more time commuting than exploring.

The Hotels We Recommend? We Slept There.

San Francisco pricing can fluctuate wildly.

The hotels in our itineraries are places we have:

  • Personally checked into
  • Assessed for safety after dark
  • Evaluated for neighbourhood vibe
  • Tested for transport convenience
  • Calculated against total daily commute time

We balance three factors:

Location efficiency + Comfort + Fair pricing

A slightly higher nightly rate near transit can save you time, Uber costs, and fatigue.

That’s what “value” truly means.

Our Standard

We will never recommend:

  • A hotel we haven’t stayed in
  • An area we haven’t explored
  • A viewpoint we haven’t physically reached

Because San Francisco is magical when done right.

And unnecessarily tiring when done blindly.
