This Ain’t Your Grandma’s ABA… And That’s the Point.

Let me tell you something real… I didn’t become a BCBA to police behavior. I became a BCBA because I saw the power of communication, connection, and compassionate support… and I knew we could do better.

When I first entered this field, like many of y’all, I was trained in the check-the-box style of ABA. You know the one. Write the program, run the trial, collect the data, repeat. But if I’m being honest (and I always am), that approach left me feeling disconnected. From the kids. From the parents. From why I even chose this path. I was out here writing goals I didn’t believe in and walking into parent meetings praying they’d get cancelled… because deep down, I wasn’t confident anyone ever showed me how to actually do this part of the work.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve reclaimed my why. I run my own agency—Applied Behavioral Approach Consulting (ABAC)—where I’m rewriting the narrative. We’re not just collecting data. We’re building trust. We’re creating space for self-advocacy. We’re respecting boundaries. And yes, we’re still using the science… but in a way that honors the human behind the behavior.

What sets my work apart? It’s simple:

  • I don’t believe in writing goals just because a behavior is inconvenient.
  • I don’t support fading prompts if the learner isn’t ready.
  • I absolutely don’t believe in compliance for compliance’s sake.

Instead, I believe in collaboration. I believe in giving RBTs more than just a session plan… I give them mentorship. I believe parents deserve tools, not judgment. I believe goals should be neuro-affirming, assent-based, functional, and actually about the client (wild, right?).

I believe BCBAs deserve to be supported, too. Because this work is beautiful… but it can also be heavy, confusing, and exhausting. That’s why I started creating resources that make it easier to do this job well without losing your mind. Whether it’s my Parent Coaching curriculum, Program Modification Toolkit, or CEUs that speak to your spirit and your ethics… I’m here for it. I’m here for you.

At the end of the day, my mission is this…

Elevate clinicians. Elevate care. And always, always keep it real.

Thanks for being here. Thanks for wanting to do better. And if nobody told you today—you’re doing a damn good job.
