Dinner and a Movie Night with The Parent Trap

Looking for a cozy summer movie night idea? This Parent Trap-inspired dinner and movie night is full of camp cookout food, twin snack cups, strawberry lemonade, and easy little extras for a fun Friday or Saturday night at home.

This is also the first in a weekly Dinner + a Movie Friday series, where each week has a movie, a dinner idea, snacks, drinks, and one small activity to make the night feel like an actual event again.

Because honestly, part of the fun used to be the whole ritual. Going to Blockbuster. Walking the aisles. Picking the movie. Grabbing candy. Choosing snacks. Making the night feel special before the movie even started.

This is my cozy little way of bringing that feeling back, but at home.

The Vibe

This week’s vibe is summer camp, lake days, lemonade, cozy blankets, and easy dinner.

Think first-weekend-of-summer energy. Nothing too complicated, nothing too perfect. Just a fun little plan that makes staying home feel more exciting.

The goal is to turn a regular Friday or Saturday night into something you look forward to.

Dinner Idea

For dinner, go with a Camp Walden Cookout.

Serve:

  • burgers or hot dogs
  • potato chips
  • corn on the cob
  • watermelon
  • lemonade

It is simple, summery, and easy to pull together. You can grill, use the oven, air fry, or even grab takeout and still keep the theme.

The point is not to make it fancy. The point is to make it feel fun.

Snack Idea

The snack idea for this week is Twin Snack Cups.

Make one sweet cup and one salty cup.

For the sweet cup, try:

  • popcorn
  • cookies
  • gummies
  • chocolate candies
  • marshmallows
  • berries

For the salty cup, try:

  • pretzels
  • chips
  • cheese crackers
  • popcorn
  • mini crackers
  • cheese
  • almonds

You can make one set for the table or one set for each person. It is cute, easy, and perfect for movie night.

Bonus idea: before the movie starts, make snack collecting part of the event. Go to the store, let everyone pick one candy or snack, and bring back that old Friday-night movie rental feeling.

Drink Idea

The drink for this week is strawberry lemonade.

Keep it easy with lemonade, sliced strawberries, lemon slices, and ice.

For a sparkling version, mix:

half lemonade

half sparkling water

sliced strawberries

lemon slices

Serve it in a mason jar, cute glass, or whatever makes it feel a little more special.

Activity

Before the movie starts, make a Summer Bucket List Jar.

Write down a few simple summer ideas on slips of paper and put them in a jar. Then pull one idea each weekend.

A few ideas:

  • go on a beach walk
  • make homemade lemonade
  • have a picnic dinner
  • watch a movie outside
  • make s’mores
  • take a sunset walk
  • try a new dessert
  • have a pajama movie night
  • make friendship bracelets

It is a tiny activity, but it makes summer feel more intentional.
