Hi, I’m Ashley!
If you know me, you know I have a heartbeat for adventure. That spark started with the dreams my father encouraged me to have. He always told me to use my imagination, because whatever you can imagine, you can have. My first memory of that magic was Disney World, the place where “dreams come true.”
But as I got older, my imagination took me much further. I began my international journey in Nairobi, Kenya, which ultimately led to me living there for eight months, working on community projects. From there, the journey just kept going. Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, England, India, and the list continues to grow.
Luxury Taste, Smart Budget
I’ll be the first to tell you: I have expensive taste, but I don’t always have the budget to match. But that doesn’t stop me. I’ve learned that it’s actually quite easy to take an international trip on a budget and still have a luxurious experience. The quality of the trip can be great without the expensive price tag. In my travels, I have experienced culture both within and outside of the typical “tourist standards,” and that balance is what makes my travels amazing.
The "Worth It" Moments
Take my time in Kenya, for example. While traveling around the city doing community work with a group of people I met from the States, I stayed at a place called Small World Country Club, right outside of the city. It was a low-budget stay that felt cozy. They put a lot of thought into caring for their clients. The experience was beautiful, and the cost wasn’t overwhelming. I’m talking about stunning sunset views and the luxury of having someone come give me a mani/pedi for a really small fee. They even had a safari tour right on the property that was much cheaper than going to the National Park.
Don't get me wrong, I’ve been to the National Park, but there was something so special about this quaint place and having the opportunity to hike with camels. Those are the kind of gems I look for.
