Since the release of Instagram’s "Edits" app, rumours have circulated that the platform demotes or restricts the reach of Reels edited in third-party apps.
However, in January 2026, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, explicitly denied this. You are free to edit your content on any app you choose. The catch? You must ensure there is no watermark present. Most "freemium" or free versions of editing apps embed these watermarks as a way to nudge you toward their premium subscriptions. Instagram’s algorithm identifies these as "recycled content" and may limit your visibility as a result.
Does this mean you can't add your own logo?
Not at all. You can still brand your videos; just ensure your logo is small and placed outside of the Instagram Safe Zones. These are the areas covered by the UI, like the caption, the "Like" button, and the top header—where your logo would be obscured or distracting.
