The basic three qualities of food is here considering as the Blueprint. These are three in number
- Satwa
- Rajas
- Thamas
The food that promotes life, lucidity, strength, happiness and satisfaction is satwik food which is pure and fine in nature. They are natural, not very spicy, sour or hot and are considered to be Satwikc.
Eg: Fruits, nuts, milk and milk products, steamed vegetables, cooked grains, beans and cereals.
Rajistic food contributes to dynamism, making one active but causing pain, grief and sick in the same time They are pungent, sour, spicy, sharp, harsh and burning and which makes an individual have a Rajasic nature.
Eg: meat,fish, junk foods, fried items
At the same time, the Sattwic products are mixed with a lot of spices and become sour and hot, they become Rajastic.
The food which is spoiled, tasteless, putrid, stale, leftover and unclean is called Tamasic foods. They cause slowness or obstruction to the activities. Too much Satwic or Rajistic food can be tamasic.
Importance of the spiritual aspect of food:
Food is not a dead substance that exists just to fill a hole. Food too has a soul. Food is for the celebration of our life, which means the food which adds 'prana to our body. It provides you with nourishment and growth in spirituality. Let your food be your medicine. Make it a commitment to your body for improving your health. Bless all that you eat and drink with love, gratitude and divine presence so that it becomes wholesome and nutritious.
