Why does Karkidaka observe as a holy month?(Mini blog)

Culturally and historically the last month of the Malayalam calendar Karkidaka got great importance. 


This month is representative of rain and poverty in old days. 


So there was a special religious occasion that has been practising for nearly 500 years, considered a holy month in preventing bad impacts of this month. 


But In houses, the recitation of Ramayana was observed for nearly 40 years.


"The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of Swami Chinmayananda, Swami Visweswara Theertha, seers; Karan Singh, regarded as a cultural ambassador; and Rajendra Singh, former RSS chief, in Ernakulam in 1982"
