What is the relationship between Yoga and Ayurveda

Yoga is known as Indian Psychology which developed from the psychological aspect of Ayurvedic science.

The main text is called Yogasootra by Pathanjali(322–185B. C) There are different stories about the mythological aspects of Patanjali.

Here we are considering the scientific aspects only.

This text contains 4 parts. Other eminent personalities in the history of Yoga are Vyasa and Sankaracharya.

One of the classifications of treatment in Ayurveda is

🔹Yuktivyapasrayam..(based on logic, the medicine's internal and external processes all are included )

🔹Daivavyapasreayam ( worshipping the God ) and

🔹Satvavachayam ( psychology ).


Yoga is included in satvavacaya chikitsa. Satwa is a soul in Ayurveda. Attaining spiritual and mental health is the aim of the third treatment.

The role of Yoga in Ayurveda

is decreasing the pain because it hinders the attainment of life goals /purpose of life.

What is the purpose of life according to Ayurveda?

According to Ayurveda, we are living for pleasure or happiness, not simple happiness we want ultimate happiness. It is permanent, it is devoid of sadness, grief, disappointments, hopelessness disinterest or mood plus.

the pain hinders the full filling of the purpose of Ayurveda.
