Loving Somebody Without Losing Yourself

Loving somebody who's incarcerated is a different kind of relationship.

It's the phone calls you look forward to. The conversations that go on for hours. The visits you plan, the little things you do to keep each other smiling, and the future you talk about building together.

But there's another side to it that doesn't get talked about enough.

The waiting. The misunderstandings. The days you need somebody to talk to, but you can't just pick up the phone and call them whenever you want.

And sometimes, without even realizing it, your whole routine starts revolving around somebody else's schedule.

I know what that feels like.

I know what it's like to get excited when that phone rings. To come up with games just to make the conversations more interesting. To imagine being somewhere together when you can't actually be there.

Some of those moments are genuinely beautiful.

But I also know how easy it can be to put so much energy into loving somebody else that you forget to check on yourself.

That's part of why I created my Interactive Journal.

I wanted something different. Not just pages filled with questions, but something couples could actually enjoy together.

That's why I included 19 call, text, and visit games, relationship check-ins, red flag discussions, and activities that encourage real conversations.

And I didn't forget about the person doing the loving.

There are pages for your feelings, your thoughts, and the things you might not always say out loud.

Because sometimes you spend so much time asking somebody else how they're doing that nobody stops to ask how YOU are doing.

And I want to be clear about something.

This journal isn't a promise that your relationship will work out. It isn't going to make somebody communicate better if they don't want to. And it isn't about telling anybody to stay or leave.

It's simply something I created from experiences I understand personally.

Something to help couples connect, laugh, communicate, and make the most of the time they do have together, while also remembering that both people's feelings matter.

Because you can love somebody deeply without forgetting who you are in the process.

Love them, support them, enjoy the connection. Just don't forget to show up for yourself, too.
