How do I listen to mb4 audiobooks?

Most audiobook platforms offer protected audio files and you must have a proprietary player to access their content. These apps are not cross-platform (you can’t play an Audible audiobook on the Chirp audiobook player, etc.)

Fortunately, there are a number of FREE smartphone audiobook apps available.

I recommend:

Smart Audiobook Player on Google Play

Smart Audiobook Player is the go-to audiobook app for the Google/Android platform. Here is a detailed video describing how to set up Smart Audiobook Player on your Android device and how to add mb4 files to your library. There is also a much shorter video showing the steps for adding audiobooks to your library. NOTE-this short video has no sound, it just shows you the steps

BookPlayer for iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch

BookPlayer is the app I use. Once it’s installed, when you download an Audio-Visceral audiobook you will be asked if you want to open it in BookPlayer. Click YES et, voila! The book will appear in BookPlayer. BookPlayer then asks if you want to create a new folder for the file. Click YES and BookPlayer will create a new folder using the name of the audiobook and you’re good to go!

Listen to m4b files on MacOs

You can listen to M4B audiobooks on your Mac by playing them directly with the QuickTime Player. For more advanced features, you can download a dedicated audiobook player from the Mac App Store like BookPlayer or ListenBook.

Using QuickTime Player:

  1. Open the file: Simply double-click the M4B file, and it should open in QuickTime Player.
  2. Control playback: Use the playback controls that appear on the screen to play, pause, or move through the audiobook.

Using a dedicated audiobook player (from the Mac App Store):

  1. Search the App Store: Open the App Store and search for "audiobook player."
  2. Install an app: Choose an app that fits your needs, such as BookPlayer, ListenBook, or Audo, and install it.
  3. Play M4B files: Open the downloaded M4B file with the new app, which will offer features like chapter management and playback speed control.

VLC Media Player for Windows

To play an M4B file in VLC on Windows, simply launch VLC media player and then drag and drop the M4B file into the VLC window. Alternatively, you can right-click the M4B file, select "Open With," and then choose VLC media player from the list of applications to play the audiobook.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Open VLC Media Player: Launch the VLC application on your Windows computer.
  2. Locate the M4B File: Find the M4B file you want to play in your file explorer.
  3. Play the File:
  • Drag and Drop Method: Click and hold the M4B file, then drag it directly into the open VLC window. Release the mouse button to start playback.
  • Right-Click Method: Right-click on the M4B file, select "Open With" from the context menu, and then choose VLC media player from the list of available programs.
