Embracing the Transition: Finding Intention as My Birthday Month Begins

Hello, everyone!

As the leaves in Cleveland begin their breathtaking descent, painting our city in hues of fiery red, golden yellow, and warm brown, my heart feels a familiar stirring. October has arrived, and with it, the gentle yet powerful energy of transition. And as my birthday on October 30th approaches, this theme of transition feels particularly resonant.

Here in Northeast Ohio, we truly experience the shift from the vibrant energy of summer to the cozy embrace of autumn. The air grows crisp, the days become shorter, and there’s a natural slowing down, an invitation to turn inward. This year, I’m choosing “Transition” as my guiding word for this season, not just because it mirrors the changes happening in nature, but because it encourages a mindful and intentional approach to this beautiful in-between time.

For many of us, fall can feel like a liminal space. We’re letting go of the activities and lightness of summer, yet we haven’t fully settled into the routines and introspective nature of winter. It’s a time that can sometimes feel a little uncertain, a pause between chapters. But what if we embraced this transition not as a void, but as fertile ground for intention?

This October, leading up to my birthday, I’m focusing on:

Intentional Letting Go: Just like the trees shedding their leaves, what am I ready to release? Certain energy of old friends, no longer fitting the bill. What no longer serves me or aligns with where I want to be? This could be old habits, limiting beliefs, or even physical clutter. The act of consciously letting go creates space for new growth.

Intentional Presence: The beauty of fall is fleeting. The vibrant colors, the crisp air, the cozy moments. I want to be fully present to savor these experiences. This means putting down my phone, engaging my senses, and truly appreciating the here and now.

Intentional Nourishment: As the weather cools, our bodies often crave different kinds of nourishment. I’m being intentional about the foods I eat, leaning into warm, grounding meals. When you're a townie, you get it. But nourishment also extends to my mind and soul. What books am I reading? Fall covers anyone. What conversations am I having? These lead to where I am meant to go. What activities bring me joy and recharge my spirit? Fall baking, is right up our alley. Pumpkin spice.

Intentional Reflection: My birthday is a natural milestone for reflection. As I approach another year, I’m taking time to look back at the lessons learned, the growth achieved, and the experiences that have shaped me. This reflection will inform my intentions for the year ahead. With room now to make more intentional decisions that bring dreams closer to reality, I am honored to find them.

Intentional Connection: Fall often brings a desire for deeper connection. I’m making an effort to reach out to loved ones, nurture my relationships, and create meaningful moments with the people who matter most. Man.

This season, I invite you to join me in embracing the transition. What word resonates with you as we move into fall? How can you infuse this time with intention? Whether it’s embracing the cozy atmosphere, setting new goals, or simply allowing yourself to slow down and be present, let’s make this transition a conscious and meaningful one. Wishing you a beautiful and intentional autumn!
