Step-by-Step Guide: How to Start an Online Coaching Template Business
Starting an online coaching template business can feel like a leap into the unknown, but if I could do it, you can too! Here’s how I went from a real beginner to Etsy shop owner, and how you can get started with your own template business.
Step 1: Explore, Decide & Start
Two years ago, I was searching for online business ideas on YouTube. I came across a video about selling coaching templates on Etsy. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. I knew that creating digital resources had the potential to bring passive income, and I thought, I just have to try it. So, the first lesson. It is ok to be sceptical, but to get somewhere you have to just take the first step.
Step 2: Set Up Your Online Store
I hired a freelancer from Fiverr to set up my Etsy store, because I had no clue how to start. I dont recommend you to do that. Etsy is pretty easy to get started with, the challenging part is to stand out, and make a lot of sales. You need to have great products, great descriptions and excellent mockups(pictures of your products) But to master all of these you first need to take one step, START !
To get started on Etsy will cost you 15 €, and some hour of work.
Tip 1 : Do not hire a Freelancer from Etsy, purchase my Etsy guide for a few dollars instead a do it yourself. Included are also tips & tricks that will make you more successful on Etsy)

Tip 2 : In the beginning you will probably choose what the option that is cheapest. My question to you is this. Ask yourself this instead : What is the step that you should take that could be the fastest way to get what you want ?
Step 3: Choose a Niche That Fits You
Because I’m a coach, the coaching space was a natural fit for me. Think about your expertise or passions – you’ll find it easier and more enjoyable to create templates for a field you’re familiar with. Start with a specific area, whether it’s productivity, goal setting, or relationship coaching, and add your unique angle.
Step 4: Start Small and Create Your First Templates
I knew of Canva, so I opened an account and created my first listings. My first templates were simple, one-page designs that weren’t fancy, but they served their purpose. Don’t worry about perfection at this stage. Just focus on creating useful, clear templates that provide real value to your target audience. You’ll improve over time, as I did ! And it is improtant that you create YOUR unique approach so that you can stand out !
Step 5: Stay Persistent and Celebrate Small Wins
It took me about two months to make my first sale, and I still remember the excitement! The sale was only about $1, but I understood that it could work. If I could sell for $1, I believed it was possible to sell for more. Be patient – those first sales are often small, but they’re proof you’re on the right track.
The best thing about this business is that small things ads up after time, and you only have to produce it ONE time and can sell it forever.
Step 6: Build a Routine and Continue Learning
I set a goal to create two templates or pages every day. In the beginning, I watched countless YouTube videos and read articles about selling on Etsy.(I still do) I improved my design skills and got faster at creating resources. Consistency is key, and learning as you go helps you refine your products.
Step 7: Invest in High-Quality Resources
Looking back, what would have helped me tremendously was access to premade templates I could sell. This realization inspired me to create my own PRL Coaching Library.
