Hey there, and welcome to the Big Brain Kids blog! I’m so glad you’re here.
Let me start by introducing myself and someone very special to me—Lily.
Who’s Lily, you ask? She’s like the good angel on my shoulder. She’s the voice of guidance and encouragement that comes from all the incredible teachers and role models I’ve been blessed to have in my life. They taught me about emotional intelligence, coping skills, and how to build the confidence to face life’s challenges.
Lily is the helpmate I wish I had growing up. She’s the steady, warm voice that says, “You’ve got this,” when everything feels like it’s falling apart. In my books, she’s there to guide kids (and parents!) through the ups and downs of emotions, friendships, and self-discovery. Think of her as the friend who doesn’t judge, the mentor who sees your potential, and the safe space where you can learn, grow, and thrive.
Why I Do This Work
Let me tell you a little about my journey. I’ve been in the ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) field for over nine years now, and I absolutely love what I do. Working with kids and families to navigate emotions, behaviors, and challenges isn’t just a job for me—it’s my passion.
My education in psychology and human behavior has been a game changer. It’s one thing to study the science of how people think and feel, but it’s another to see that science come to life in a real, everyday way. There’s nothing better than watching a kid learn a new coping skill or seeing a parent connect with their child on a deeper level.
But let me keep it real: I didn’t always have the guidance or tools I needed growing up. That’s why this work matters so much to me. I want to be the person I needed back then—for kids, parents, and educators. And that’s where Lily comes in.

• Practical Tools: From the Emotional Power Wheel to simple behavior strategies, you’ll get free resources that make a difference in everyday life.
The Power of Stories
One of the best ways to teach kids (and ourselves) is through storytelling. That’s why I created The Power of Words, an e-book designed to help kids understand their emotions, navigate relationships, and build confidence. It’s a digital resource you can take on the go or print out for some offline time.
And now, I’ve got a new free resource just for the holidays: Holiday Harmony. This booklet includes Maya and Jasmine’s heartwarming story, tips from Lily, and activities like the Emotional Power Wheel to help kids and families connect during the holidays. Download it here (#) and give your family the gift of emotional connection this season.
Why Emotional Intelligence Matters
Emotional intelligence isn’t just a buzzword. It’s the foundation for everything—from how we manage stress to how we build relationships. The ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions is a skill that can change lives, and it’s one I believe every kid deserves to learn.
In my work as an RBT, I’ve seen how these tools can help kids of all abilities and backgrounds:
• Kids with autism learning to express themselves.
• Teens with anxiety discovering ways to calm their racing thoughts.
• Families coming together to better understand each other.
It’s a journey, and it’s not always easy—but it’s so worth it.

Oh, and don’t miss my next post, “Building Holiday Traditions That Bring Families Closer,” where I’ll share five simple ideas to create lasting memories with your kids.
Thanks for stopping by. Whether you’re a parent, an educator, or just someone who wants to make a difference, I’m here to help. Let’s keep learning, growing, and thriving—together.
Until next time, keep showing up. You’ve got this, and Lily and I are here to remind you every step of the way.
