Your Local Guide to Big Bear

Hi! I’m the owner of Black Bear Lodge at Moonridge, and I created these guides from my own love of Big Bear and all the places we’ve discovered along the way.

I wanted to put together the kind of guide I’d actually want when visiting—favorite local spots, beautiful places to explore, things worth doing, and a few helpful tips you might not find on a typical travel list. I hope it helps you discover a little more of what makes Big Bear so special.

I've included our cabin link below in case you wanted to explore the cabin, check availability, or book your Big Bear Getaway.

Places Worth Discovering

  • Boulder Bay

Boulder Bay is one of the prettiest spots along Big Bear Lake, known for the huge granite boulders rising from the water. With beautiful lake and mountain views, it’s an easy place to slow down, explore the shoreline, and enjoy the scenery.

  • Big Bear Lake

Spending time by the lake is an essential part of any Big Bear getaway. During the warmer months, enjoy boating, kayaking, or fishing, or explore the shoreline while taking in the surrounding mountain views.

  • Stanfield Marsh

Stanfield Marsh Wildlife and Waterfowl Preserve is a scenic place to experience the natural beauty of Big Bear Lake. The easy boardwalk winds through the marsh, offering open views of the lake and surrounding mountains along the way.

  • The Village at Big Bear Lake

The Village brings together local shops, restaurants, cafés, and plenty of mountain-town charm. Browse the boutiques and gift shops, grab a bite to eat, or stop for coffee while you wander through town.

  • Big Bear Mountain Resort

There’s always something happening on the mountain. Winter means ski days, fresh snow, and plenty of time on the slopes, while summer brings mountain biking, hiking, and a whole different way to explore.

  • Alpine Pedal Path

The Alpine Pedal Path is an easy way to enjoy the lake without taking on a big hike. This paved path follows the North Shore, winding through the pines with beautiful views of the water and mountains along the way.

  • Fawnskin & The North Shore

Fawnskin and the North Shore are worth the drive when you want to see the laid-back side of Big Bear. With fewer crowds, lake views, tall pines, and plenty of places to explore, it’s a nice change of pace from the busier parts of town.

  • Bear Mountain Golf Course

Surrounded by tall pines and mountain views, Bear Mountain Golf Course is a fun way to spend a few hours outdoors. The nine-hole course has a relaxed mountain feel and is a great option whether you’re a regular golfer or just want to play a round while you’re here.

  • Big Bear Discovery Center

Tucked among the pines on the North Shore, the Big Bear Discovery Center is a great place to stop before heading out to explore. Pick up trail maps, get local information, check current conditions, and find ideas for nearby hikes and outdoor activities.
