The Art of FOCUS (Forging Opportunities with Confidence and Unique Savvy)

I must admit being focused today is very challenging. If it is not the news, work, outside home activities, or social media drawing me away, it’s one of life’s many, many challenges. Almost twenty years ago, I had so many ideas floating around my head. There were so many things I wanted do in life but didn’t fully pursue because I was NOT focused. I allowed distractions to get in my way. Don’t get me wrong. I have an awesome life: wonderful husband, two beautiful children, and healthy friendships. I’ve traveled across the country and some outside the US.

My almost forty years of life has been blessed but I often feel like there’s more to my story than just being comfortable. I tell myself “life is meant to be lived.” That means living outside of my comfort zone. Min. Ricardo Miller of Ricardo Miller Children’s Ministry International, posted on Facebook a phrase so profound that it blew my mind. It said, “I am going to live until I die.” Simply put. None of us know when death will come. So, while death is pending, why not live now? Life can be challenging and can throw some heavy, unexpected punches. However, just like the Heavyweight Champion fighter, he falls but get back up again and win. How does he win? He completes the fight. He learns what he needs to do to win the next fight and gets paid for the fight he lost. The Bible stated a long time ago to “think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.” Those jabs are going to come but be ready to bob and weave, stick and move and brace for the unexpected punches. Since life’s challenges are coming hard, GO HARD anyway!

When I thought about the word FOCUS, I started thinking about words that clearly defined the meaning of that one, solitary, five-letter word: Forging Opportunities with Confidence and Unique Savvy. Cool, huh? So much creativity in that acronym. I was even impressed. (Thank God for ideas). These words personify energy, staying power, stamina, and as the Urban Dictionary calls it, sticktivity. Yes, sticktivity! FOCUS requires seeing the vision come into fruition, and setting measurable goals before they’re even visible.

I played with focus. My ideas started with great FOCUS. Then, I would get distracted and focus on something else until there were so many unFOCUSed projects that were never developed. I blamed myself and accepted that I didn’t choose FOCUS over complacency. I also understand that I could be in a great place when I challenge my distractions, reFOCUS and lay my plans before the God of the Universe. Will it require a lot of work? Absolutely! Do I have what it takes to Forge Opportunities with Confidence and Unique Savvy? Yes! One thing is for sure, I have to use my time wisely and not allow another twenty years to fly by leaving me in my comfort zone. It’s time to reFOCUS! Have you allowed time and ideas pass you by? Take inventory and reFOCUS!

Peace and blessings,
